Bloober Team has delved into some of the inspirations and intentions of its upcoming horror sequel Layers of Fear 2 promising that the new film theme will “enrich the franchise.”
The game’s new development diary (embedded below) reveals that the creative team has drawn inspiration from “the history of cinema, from George Méliès to contemporary film.”
Players take the role of an actor who signs up for an ambitious new film aboard a transatlantic ocean liner. Bloober Team’s Lead Designer and Producer Bartosz Kaproń says that the choice of protagonist was a “defining moment in development,” as it enabled a clear connection to the game’s themes of identity.
While the setting and premise of Layers of Fear 2 therefore represent a significant departure from its predecessor, the team is aiming to ensure the return of the most well-received features, including “the dark, claustrophobic interiors, the shifting environments, as well as a rich multi-layered story.”
OnlySP’s Benjamin James reviewed the first game on its release back in 2016, finding it to be “a worthwhile trip for all kinds of traditional horror fans and gamers alike.”
Layers of Fear 2 is currently without a launch date, though it is expected to arrive some time this year.
