Epic Games has announced a new publishing arm that is partnering with genDESIGN, Playdead, and Remedy Entertainment.
Epic stated that its publishing vision is a massive stride in the right direction for developer-focused publishing. With its new model, Epic has pledged to give developers full creative freedom during the development process as well as ownership over any intellectual property.
Epic Games Publishing will also fund entire projects from start to ship including quality assurance, marketing, and developer salaries will all be covered. Additionally, developers will earn 50 percent of profits after costs have been recouped on Epic’s side.
Within Epic’s press release, founder and CEO Tim Sweeney said:
We’re building the publishing model we always wanted for ourselves when we worked with publishers.
All three studios have received massive critical success in their respective development careers. Playdead’s recent releases include Limbo and Inside and the studio has been working on a new 3D science fiction adventure.
Epic also added that more information will be coming in the following months including more developer partnerships and game announcements.
