Battlefield-4-Modern-Warfare-Setting

“Surprise! It’s Battlefield 4, everybody!”

EA is at it again. Them and DICE are likely working on Battlefield 4 as we speak, especially now that it’s known a reveal is coming in around 90 days.

Frank Gibeau, president of EA labels, stated the following in EA’s earnings call yesterday, which was transcribed by Seeking Alpha:

“We’ve already talked a little bit about that we have a Battlefield title coming next year, but we’re not in a position right now to talk about our development plans and our SKU plan long term. That will come in about 90 days when we get to show you some Battlefield stuff.”

Doing the math, one can easily conclude that this will occur in either late April or early May. This is after the PS4 and next Xbox console are rumored to be reveal at GDC in March, so there’s strong reason to think that Battlefield 4 will be a next-gen title. Also, since E3 2013 closely follows the period of this BF4 announcement, it’ll be a great opportunity for EA to start some hype going with this announcement and only escalate that further by showing footage at E3.

Of course, being primarily a multiplayer franchise, we’ll still left with the uncomfortable question of whether Battlefield 4‘s campaign will be any good or of it should even have one, especially after witnessing the, to be frank, trite campaign of BF3. I recently wrote an editorial on the topic, which can be read here.
