Information was recently released regarding the next installment of the Dragon Quest saga: Dragon Quest XI: Sugishari Toki o Motomete (which translates to “The Search for a Bygone Time” or “Departed Time” according to some sources). The new game was announced by publisher Square Enix at a press conference yesterday.
The game is slated for a simultaneous cross-platform 3DS and PS4 release…and also the Nintendo NX, making it one of the first titles confirmed for Nintendo’s new console, which we should be learning more about next year. The Nintendo NX and PS4 are also expected to get releases of Dragon Quest X, which is an MMORPG originally released for Wii in 2012.
The PS4 vesion of the game is being jointly developed between Square Enix and Orca and is being created on the Unreal Engine 4. The 3DS version is being developed by the same core staff and is tapping Toylogic to assist on the project. Toylogic has assisted on several Nintendo projects including Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Wii and Kid Icarus: Uprising for the 3DS.
Square Enix hopes to release the game in 2016, coinciding with the franchise’s 30th Anniversary. No official release date has been announced at this time, however.
