Doctor Who The Edge of Time Dalek

The BBC has announced that a new virtual reality experience based on the science-fiction television series Doctor Who will be released later this year.

Doctor Who: The Edge of Time will put players on a journey to find the Doctor, portrayed by the incumbent incarnation Jodie Whittaker, who has been hurled to the end of the universe while a virus threatens to rip reality apart. The player is tasked with recovering time crystals to save the universe.

Using VR, players can access the Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver to solve puzzles and pilot the TARDIS to journey across worlds. The player will face several adversaries from the show, including Daleks and Weeping Angels, as well as some new monsters. Check out the teaser trailer below.

In a press release, Bradley Crooks, head of digital entertainment and games for BBC Studios, has teased future gaming iterations from the television series. “Gaming is a key part of the future of Doctor Who and allows us to tell new and exciting stories beyond the TV screen.”

The Edge of Time is the second Doctor Who project in VR this year. The first, titled Doctor Who: The Runaway, is a 13-minute animation available for free on the Oculus Store, Vive Port, and BBC VR App for UK players (with international releases yet to come). The Runaway also stars Whittaker as the Doctor, and features work from series composer Segun Akinola.

His favourite games are those with deep and captivating narratives: while it would take far too long to list them all, some include L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption (and its sequel), Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Last of Us, and the Uncharted series.
