If you’ve ever wondered how Metroid would be like as a top-down shooter, then you now have the chance to see it… for a price.
Although the fan-produced Metroid: Coven has had on-and off development over the last 2 years with various issues cropping up, the lead developer EchoJerichoX has stated that things have finally gone back on track. He plans to release a demo of the game to the public soon.
While the game is a top-down shooter, it looks to emulate the classic atmosphere and structure of early 2D Metroid titles while expanding upon their gameplay elements. Of course, since most of the team members left over the years, Echo will need your help to finish the game. He’s asking for donations, which you can do here. $5 will net you exclusive access to early builds of the game as well as the ability to use the game’s assets for your own project as long as you cite your sources, so to speak. You can donate more and get some other goodies. See the fundraiser site for more info.
You can see some of the early demo footage below. Metroid fans, rejoice! Here’s your opportunity to help a fellow fan out while getting something in return. The world can always use some more Metroid, after all.
