The Kickstarter for the sequel to last year’s acclaimed RPG by Larian Studios, Divinity: Original Sin, has been launched with the goal of $500k.
With turn-based combat and cooperative/competitive elements introduced this time, Divinity: Original Sin 2, like its predecessor, is inspired by traditional pen and paper role-playing games. It will have a strong focus on “systematic gameplay” and narrative, with many difficult decisions for players to make.
Players will be able to team up with up to three companions, each with their own background and distinct personality. Furthermore, there will be new creatures, gameplay mechanics and more, compared to its predecessor.
One of these new mechanics is Skill Crafting, which will let players combined different skills and spells to fuse them into unique new ones, like in the Magicka series.
With skill crafting, you can mix a “silence” spell with a “summon spider” spell to make a “summon stealth spider” spell. A “rain” spell combined with a “grease” spell yields a “grease rain” spell. (By the way, wet grease explodes if it comes in contact with fire. Just another elemental bang to ruin your enemy’s day.) And you can mix bleeding spells like “lacerate” with a “rain” spell to summon a tempest of blood.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is in development for a PC release, with other platforms potentially being announced in the future.
