Disco Elysium, one of 2019’s biggest breakout games, is starting the new year off with a fresh update.

Disco Elysium has a brand new hardcore mode, as well as support for ultrawide monitors. ZA/EM, the game’s developer, announced the new features through its Devblog.

The new game mode is called ‘Hardcore True Detective Mode’. Players will be able to experience the city of Revachol with a new perspective.  Previously overlooked items such as alcohol and cigarettes become items of necessity, while clothes offer much needed protection. Money is far scarcer and everything is much more expensive. ZA/EM is encouraging players to think differently and appreciate the few rewards they are given in this unrelenting mode.

Both the hardcore mode and the ultrawide monitor support are available starting today on PC.

Disco Elysium was released in October 2019 for PC, and is due to release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime in 2020. The game won several awards, including Best RPG at The Game Awards 2019. OnlySP’s Rebecca Hills-Duty awarded the game a Distinction (4/5), noting that “Disco Elysium is a sprawling, multi-layered game full of twists and turns.”

Existing somewhere in one of the Final Fantasy universes, Tommus manages to find some spare time to write news for OnlySP. Gaming has been his most consistent pastime since he can remember, and he decided that the best place for him to be was in the midst of it all. To this day he still hails Fallout: New Vegas as his all time favorite game, and dabbles in others such as the Final Fantasy and Metro series. Despite being raised on Nintendo and PlayStation he’s somehow found his home on Xbox Live where he helps out as an Ambassador.
