Following Devil May Cry 5‘s confirmation at the Microsoft conference yesterday, Capcom has stated that the title will “conclude the long awaited Sons of Sparda saga.”
Some further story and technical details were released following the conference, including the revelation that this may be the last mainline Devil May Cry title for Dante and Virgil. Story-wise, Devil May Cry 5 takes place in Red Grave City, several years on from the events of Devil May Cry 4. The source of the demons is a “demon tree,” which attracts the attention of Nero, one of Devil May Cry 4‘s deuteragonists.
Nero, following the loss of his arm, now has a full reconstructed mechanical arm and is living in a motorhome with his partner Nico. Following the invasion, Nero goes on the look for Dante, who has been missing since the events of the previous game.
By utilising the in-house RE Engine, Devil May Cry 5 allows Capcom to push the title to new heights in visualfidelity, “featuring ground-breaking graphics that utilise photo-realistic character designs and stunning lighting and environmental effects.”
The project will feature three playable characters—likely Dante, Nero and either Virgil or Nico—with each offering a different take on the series’s stylish combat. Capcom also confirmed the integration of destructible environments, expanding on DmC’s experimental take on level design.
