In spite of the popularity of the Dead Space series, it seems that quite a few people are on the fence regarding the upcoming third entry due to the newly introduced co-operative gameplay features and the apparent heavy focus on action elements, among other smaller alterations. Their worry is understandable as these design choices run counter to ideals of the horror genre in which the game is supposed to fall, but then the series has always been closer to a hybrid than its contemporaries. For those that are still undecided on a purchase, EA and Visceral Games are seeking to sway them with a demo to be made publicly available on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 on the 23rd of January.
EA is offering Xbox 360 owners the option of playing it a week earlier, on the 15th, by registering with them at a Dead Space 3 Portal. Just remember that you must have an Origin account in order to take advantage of this promotion. The description of the demo implies that it will be taken from the very beginning of the game’s campaign and, so, is unlikely to be fully representative of the entirety of the game, but it should still be a good guide for what to expect. The full product will be available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC from the 5th of February.
