Yes the pun was intended in the title.

I was in the midst of writing a short editorial asking about where Dead Island 2 was, but now I guess I don’t have to as the game has picked up a new developer. Dead Island 2 is now in development at Sumo Digital, the developers of a number of titles including LittleBigPlanet 3, Virtua Tennis 3 and are currently helping develop Crackdown 3 for the Xbox One.

Sumo Digital COO Paul Porter told MCV, “It’s an honour to be charged with the evolution of such an important franchise in Deep Silver’s catalogue. We’re looking forward to exceeding fan expectation with an ambitious design that we’re confident will take bone-crunching, visceral, zombie action to a whole new level.”

No release date was given with the announcement, but it’s possible we could see Dead Island 2 by the end of this year. Yager was stripped from development of Dead Island 2 last year and at the time were pretty far along in development of the game. Deep Silver also only has one currently announced AAA title releasing this year, which is Homefront: The Revolution in May.

We’ll be sure to continue following this story as it develops so be sure to stay tuned to OnlySP on Facebook and Twitter for further updates as we have them.
