As promised last week, THQ Nordic has lifted the lid on a new Darksiders game: Darksiders Genesis.
Developed by Airship Syndicate, this new game is a spin-off from the main series, though it will focus on Strife, the final horseman from the franchise’s lore to be made playable.
However, unlike the earlier games, Genesis will be a top down action RPG in the vein of Diablo or the recently released Warhammer: Chaosbane, rather than a third-person action-adventure. Nevertheless, the game promises to feature “intense combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, epic boss battles, and serpent holes from heaven to hell.”
A brief glimpse of the new, fast-paced gameplay style is available in the debut trailer embedded below.
As a spin-off, the game seems not to follow the main storyline of the apocalypse, but rather a new narrative centring on Strife attempting to destroy Lucifer’s master demons in hell.
Darksiders Genesis is currently slated to arrive on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One, though no release date has been announced.
More details on the project are expected to be revealed via the E3 Coliseum next Thursday.
Darksiders III, which OnlySP’s Mitchell Akhurst scored a Pass, was developed by Gunfire Games. Airship Syndicate is the studio behind Battle Chasers: Nightwar. That game and the team behind it were the subject of a Gameumentary documentary last year.
