Though Darksiders III released last year to mixed reception, fans will not have to wait too long to see the series take a new direction.

According to the E3 Coliseum webpage, THQ Nordic is set to unveil a “a brand new Darksiders game that takes the franchise in a fresh direction.”

While Darksiders is categorically a AA title, an anticlimactic announcement such as this still comes as a shock. Neither THQ Nordic nor developer Gunfire Games has yet commented on this soon-to-be-unveiled game.

The Darksiders franchise follows the four horsemen of the apocalypse: Fury, War, Death, and Strife. Those paying attention will note that only one horsemen, Strife, remains to be seen as a playable protagonist in the series. Unless this upcoming entry is a reboot, the likelihood Strife will take the lead is high.

Additionally, THQ Nordic recently confirmed the series’s place in the THQ family thanks to the last game’s solid sales performance.

OnlySP reviewed Darksiders III last year, calling it a “truly middle-tier” experience.

Michael fell into the OnlySP team toward the end of 2017. You’ll mostly catch his work over in the news area, but that doesn’t mean he won’t dip into the features section every now and then. For him, gaming doesn’t get much better than Metal Gear Solid and Super Mario Sunshine. Though he is a die-hard Nintendo fan, he grew up on PlayStation.

  1. “Fresh Directions” most commonly mean a another genre change, which is very unfortunate. Games should stay themselves. If it’s a brutal vision of Zelda, let it be that, don’t turn it into Dark Souls by the third game and please don’t make a friggin… shooter out of it either.
