Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red has apparently decided to remove all third-person viewpoint content from the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077.

According to a user on the official forums (citing another user who contacted the developer on Facebook—see the image embedded below), the entire game will now take place in first-person, including cutscenes.

One exception are the driving sections, which will reportedly still allow the player to toggle between first- and third-person options.

The revelation comes after a stellar presentation at E3 2019, which included several shots of the main character in third-person.

This news also comes shortly after the developer’s announcement that it has removed binary gender options from the character creator. Instead, players will choose between male/female body types and voices, with the freedom to mix and match.

The first-person viewpoint has been contentious for Cyberpunk 2077, after The Witcher series was so highly regarded.

OnlySP’s Dimitric Edwards had the opportunity to view an extended demo of Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 this year, concluding that it “proves no one makes RPGs like CD Projekt Red.” His full impressions are available here.

  1. If all third person stuff is getting removed, what’s the point of the character creator?

    1. So you can apreciate yourself when riding a bike or looking at a mirror. You take care of your appearence in real life, even if you can’t watch yourself. :P

    2. It looks like they’ve clarified a bit more on Twitter. You’ll still see the character in inventory screens, mirrors(!), and some cutscenes. So there’s still some point, kinda.
