Fans of the Total War series may be excited to hear that, in addition to Total War: Warhammer 2, Creative Assembly is working hard on the franchise’s next historical element.

On April 5, 2017, Michael Whelan, via the Total War blog, explained that the development crew at Creative Assembly is split into two teams. The first team is working on the sequel to 2016’s Total War: Warhammer while the second team is assigned to the next historical addition to the series. “Production for our next historical major release is well underway,” wrote Whelan, “with the team working on all areas of the game at this stage.”

No real details—time period, location, factions, etcetera—have been given. However, Whelan also wrote, “it’s an area that we haven’t tackled yet, so we want to make sure we get it right.”

The most recent historical Total War game was Total War: Attila, which was released on February 17, 2015. Before that were Total War: Rome II (2013) and Total War: Shogun II (2011). Creative Assembly unveiled Total War: Warhammer II on March 31, 2017 via an official cinematic trailer. No official release date has been announced other than it will be out sometime in 2017.

Creative Assembly is a video game developer and subsidiary of Sega best known for its real-time strategy series, Total War, for PC. The company has also released a few RTS titles for consoles, such as Halo Wars 1 and 2 and Spartan: Total Warrior, as well as an action-adventure game for consoles and PC titled Alien: Isolation.
