Conan Exiles, the upcoming survival game from Funcom, will offer players the chance to adventure alone, if they so desire.
Previously considered as featuring only multiplayer gameplay, the game’s official website emphasises that players will be able to set up private servers and “dominate the world alone”.
Although billed as a survival game, players are tasked with far more than simply surviving the ravages of hunger, thirst, and other dangers of the wilderness. Gameplay revolves around the founding of a legacy and an empire through the enslavement of enemy tribes and the building of fortresses and cities.
To that end, Conan Exiles will feature a seamless open world peppered with the ruins of ancient civilisations, which may contain knowledge to further the character’s abilities.
With robust combat, including blood magic; empire management, including city building and war scenarios; and survival mechanics, Conan Exiles is shaping up to be a broad and promising game.
As the title suggests, the game is set in Robert E. Howard’s seminal fantasy world of Hyboria, perhaps best known to most audiences through the cinematic depictions of the Conan the Barbarian movies of 1982 and 2011, which respectively cast Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Momoa as the eponymous character.
Conan Exiles is expected to launch on Steam Early Access in January 2017.
