Close to the Sun

Close to the Sun is more near than far, as the release date has been set for early May.

Announced via press release, developer Storm in a Teacup revealed that Close to the Sun‘s production ramped up thanks to the exclusivity deal with Epic Games and will now release on May 2. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions have no firm release date but are still on track to launch this year. Check out the accompanying trailer down below.

Managing director of publisher Wired Productions Leo Zullo elaborated on today’s news in the press release.

“Our partnership with the amazing team at Epic Games has not only accelerated the development process of Close to the Sun in terms of accessing the sheer pixel-pushing grunt of Unreal Engine 4, but allowed the incredibly talented Storm in a Teacup team to showcase their collective talents to deliver a truly memorable and breath-taking first-person horror adventure.”

Though the vitriol surrounding the Epic Games Store has been mountainous, a developer crediting the store with its game’s “accelerated development” is an undeniable benefit.

OnlySP’s Ben Newman gave his thoughts on how the store can impact single-player gaming. Check out that story here.

The most recent Epic Games Store exclusivity deal to go through saw the acquisition of Anno 1800.

Michael fell into the OnlySP team toward the end of 2017. You’ll mostly catch his work over in the news area, but that doesn’t mean he won’t dip into the features section every now and then. For him, gaming doesn’t get much better than Metal Gear Solid and Super Mario Sunshine. Though he is a die-hard Nintendo fan, he grew up on PlayStation.
