So, let’s say you’ve been incredibly dismayed at the recent reveal of Black Ops 2. You can’t stand the thought of playing yet another realistic shooter with weapon limits and health regeneration. You crave the days of color, creativity, and jumping across thirty-feet chasms with the press of a button. Well then, my friend, your remedy has been quick and effective. Wrack is here, and it’s ready to rock your world until it spews gravy.

Wrack is an old-school FPS developed by indie studio Final Boss Entertainment that puts you in the role of Kain Sager, a self-proclaimed badass who takes it upon himself to save the world from an alien invasion. The game features a beautifully realized cel-shaded world filled with color and character. A level editor will be included both in the full game and with a pre-order, and there’s even an arcade-style scoring system in place that adds immense replayability to levels as well as the potential for a competitive community. As for the action itself, what can I say? An imaginative arsenal is at your disposals, with powerful shotguns, swords, lasers, and other cool toys available. The enemies are varied and interesting, and there are some cool boss fights sprinkled into the already well-designed levels. Check out the gameplay commentary below to see what I mean.

You can check out more info about the game at it’s official site, which can be viewed here. While Final Boss is not yet taking pre-orders yet, you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter to know when they will. Let’s try to spread the word to form a gathering of old-school FPS fans. Insert joke about “Wrack City” here.

  1. This game is shit, don't get it.

  2. fookin bawlsaq

  3. Can you guys elabarote on why this game is "shit" and "bawlsaq"? Or maybe I can just assume that you're both trolls, because that would save us all some time.

    1.  The game was made by someone who uses the screen name "Carnevil," so the guy posting with that name above is, as you suspected, nothing more than a troll. Why he's bothering to talk shit about this game on a random website like this is beyond me.

Anyway, a small correction to the article: it mentions that a level editor will be included in the full release, which is true. However, it doesn't mention that it, along with the first three levels, will also be immediately available to anyone who preorders. They aren't taking preorders just yet, but it will be available later this month. The 25th, I think.

      1.  Thanks, I'll correct that.

As for Carnevil being the actual developer; you sure it's not just someone posing as him? There's no logical explanation for why he'd do this, as I doubt slamming your own game is worth the attention you'll get.

        1. Michael, I believe Anon meant the troll just picked Brad Carney's online handle to, well, troll, and doing that is more indication he's just a troll, likely with a personal beef against Carney.

          1. Oh, I see. Sorry, I misunderstood.

In any case, we can all safely ignore the troll.

  4. Hey, I've also played the alpha of Wrack, and you could say that it was a "wreck".  The graphics are nothing special, and "cel-shaded" feels like a cop out because they can't make the graphics any better than they are. The game is repetitive, there aren't that many different monsters, all of the bosses are a joke to kill (even on the hardest difficulty) and overall it feels like a sloppy game. An oldschool doom feel that looks like it was created in 2001, not 2012, and honestly would not appeal to anybody.

  5. Also, I'd just like to mention that people who have donated over $10 to Brad don't actually receive the game. Have fun playing Wrack!

  6. Oooh, someone's mad about Black Ops 2 being badmouthed.
