With experience on The Walking Dead, Brütal Legend and Mark of The Ninja as well with other studios like Studio Ghibli, Lucasfilm and Sony, Campo Santo are a small indie team with some impressive credits to their name. Now, it’s time for Campo Santo to create some fantastic adventures of their own with Firewatch, a first person single player mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness.
What Is Firewatch?
Firewatch is a first-person exploration/mystery game that takes place in the forested area of Wyoming, USA. You play as Henry, a firewatcher hired to keep an eye out for smoke and other possible dangers in the area. One day, a mysterious presence draws you from the safety of your watchtower and into the heavily forested area.
What’s So Appealing?
While Campo Santo has quite the impressive resume, the thing that instantly strikes you about Firewatch is how rich and colourful the game’s concept art is. Packed with vibrant autumn colours and rich details, it bodes well for the future of the art direction of the game. Check out some of the concept art below to see just what I mean.
On top of the great concept art, the game already has some interesting animations. Firewatch has a sort of “Disney/Pixar” aestethetic to the characters which could be a great juxtaposition for the mystery story in the game. Check them out below.
When Can We Hear More?
Hard to say. Campo Santo are still hard at work on Firewatch right now but in the 4 months since its announcement, some serious work has already been done. Hopefully, we can get a big update on how the game is coming along soon but Campo Santo seem fixed on a 2015 release date for Mac, Windows and Linux. We’ll have to just sit back, relax and keep an eye out for smoky forests until then.
