Call of Duty: Black Ops III has been officially revealed and members of the press have started releasing their previews of the game, which include details about Black Ops 3’s campaign mode.

The game begins with a CIA mission to Singapore where things go inevitably wrong when communication is lost with the team on the ground and the world’s largest military intelligence leak occurs, leading to the events that occur in Black Ops III’s campaign.

The campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops III will reportedly be set in the year 2060, 35 years after Black Ops 2, and follows the events that occurred at the end of Black Ops 2. After the drone strikes, a new aerial defense system has been installed by world governments called, DEAD (Directed Energy Air Defense) .

This new aerial defense system has effectively made air superiority useless and thus governments go back to putting “boots on the ground”.  In addition to putting ground soldiers back on the frontlines, some Dues Ex style augmentations have been made available to them in the form of cybernetic limbs and what Treyarch is calling the DNI (Direct Neural Interface). This interface allows the Black Ops soldiers to communicate faster and have complete control over their physiology.

Black Ops 3 will not, however, have Exo-suits, but rather each character will have a thruster pack. IGN’s preview of the game noted that movement is much more like Titanfall’s now in terms of control. Players will be able to wall run, reverse thrust slide and perform a number of other moves. Black Ops III, like Titanfall, is all about “chaining moves” together now,

The campaign has been built to support 4-player cooperative play which means levels have been “opened up” much more to accommodate the new style of gameplay. However, according to IGN’s preview, Treyarch said players looking to play alone, “shouldn’t be overwhelmed because open areas are built with multiple smaller “routes” in mind that feel more precise and focused.”
