Call of Duty developers Activision have announced that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Black Ops III will not have a campaign mode, and will feature only multiplayer and Zombies modes.

Activision have made it clear that they have provided as much of the game as possible to last-gen fans of the series, but said in their forum post that “the ambitious scope of the 1-4 player co-op Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.” To counter any disappointment, Activision are also throwing in a free download of 2010’s original Black Ops, a game most fans have probably already got.

The game will still retail at around $50 which is only a $10 reduction on the version that’s not missing its campaign mode. The company make it clear that they think it impossible to recreate the experience for the last-gen consoles, but it seems to be that less effort is going in to ports for the older consoles as far as AAA games are concerned, as this follows the cancellation of the port of Mortal Kombat X.

  1. I’m no console gamer, but this is pretty unfair. They might as well not even put the game on last gen at all.

    1. Exactly. But we know why it’s on last gen hardware. Cheap port and they can still charge full price for the map pack DLC.

      1. Yup.

  2. Heh, its sad. There’s lots fans of CoD on PS3 and they playing CoD:BO2 or other part of CoD series but this is is real joke on gamers. Not everyone want to play MP only and kill zombies. IMHO better option is not release CoD: BO3 on PS3/X360 becouse its not a full port only a part of it. Better way of dealing with generation problem has CI Games, which develop Sniper Ghost Warrior only for current-gen and PC. They sad once and loud: no more games for PS3 and X360. Sad, thats true, but fair. Everyone is sure, that will have a full produt, not only a little part of it.
