Shadow of the Colossus

Bluepoint Games has confirmed that work at the studio has begun on another remake, following the release of Shadow of the Colossus last month.

Speaking to Eurogamer recently, Bluepoint president Marco Thrush mentioned that, although the team could move on to an original IP, it is “doing another remake” that is “bigger” than Shadow of the Colossus. The studio grew for its previous project, particularly the art department, but the developer is looking to expand further to be able to do more with the next remake.

Technical Director Peter Dalton mentioned that a core focus going forward will be to build up the design team to ensure the “ability to build something original and to expand it, rather than just upgrading something.” According to Dalton, the goal is to “enhance and strengthen the studio to get to a point where […]  doing original development or whatever comes [its] way” is possible.

Unfortunately, the developer did not provide any concrete details on the project. Given the team’s close relationship with Sony across the past decade, another PlayStation classic may be a reasonable guess, but Bluepoint also created the Xbox 360 version of Titanfall for Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts in 2014.

Although official sales figures of last month’s Shadow of the Colossus remake are not yet available, the title was the third-highest selling game on the PlayStation Store in February behind Monster Hunter: World and NBA Live 18 and reported outsold the original game’s launch month figures by 73% in the UK.
