Anyone remember the Black Mesa mod that was announced all the way back when Half-life 2 came out? I do! Gosh, now I feel really old. Anyways, after a troublesome development cycle, the team has finally pulled it together and are back on track. They’ve recently hit 20,000 Facebook likes, and as a result have given us some gorgeous screenshots to feast our eyes on.

For those who don’t know, Black Mesa is a total conversion mod. It’s essentially a remake of the very first Half-life, being built upon on the well-known Source Engine from Half-life 2. The team, like many fans of Valve, thought that the enduring classic that is Half-life was long overdue for an HD overhaul and set out to do it themselves. The mod will be free to play when it comes out, and will include single-player, multi-player, and the Decay co-op campaign from the PS2 version of the game.

Check out the screenshots below. Even though it’s based on a game from 1998, I have a feeling the mod may even hold up to current-gen juggernauts, this is a Valve game we’re talking about, after all.
