Mass Effect

In a recent profile session with Polygon, Anthem‘s executive producer Mike Darrah and BioWare general manager Casey Hudson revealed that the studio is nowhere near done with the Mass Effect series.

Following Mass Effect 3‘s mixed ending and Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s lukewarm reception, fans assumed that EA—and by extension BioWare—had cooled the series indefinitely. Darrah, however, said some words that would be music to Turian and Asari fans everywhere:

“We’re definitely not done with Mass Effect. There’s a lot of stories to be told. We could pull on the threads we put down with Andromeda; we could pull on threads from Mass Effect 3. There’s a lot of interesting space to be explored.”

Hudson, too, supported Darrah’s statement, revealing that he is “thinking all the time about things that I think will be great. It’s just a matter of getting back to it as soon as we can.”

In recent months, a succession of news stories has come out regarding Andromeda‘s troubled development and doomed prospects. From the complete lack of post-launch plans to discussions about how Frostbite impacted the title, discussion about the series has been rife. Hudson, though, has repeatedly stated that the series is long from dead.

BioWare’s next project, following the long-term cradling of Anthem, will likely be Dragon Age related, so Mass Effect fans will have to wait a bit longer yet. For the higher-ups to be talking so openly about the series is a positive step, however. Hopefully, Mass Effect will ignore Anthem and stick to its single-player roots during its next trip to space.

Be sure to re-visit why Anthem, despite its multiplayer focus, is one of OnlySP’s most anticipated games of 2019, and why EA needs to succeed. For more on BioWare and the world of single-player, be sure to follow OnlySP on FacebookTwitter, and YouTube.
