Batman: The Enemy Within

Last month, Telltale Games announced a plethora of new projects, including the highly anticipated sequel to Batman: The Telltale Series, with new details about the title recently emerging online.

Since then, new story information has been unveiled regarding the second season, which is titled Batman: The Enemy Within. A new summer update video was uploaded to social media, alongside the official trailer giving details of what to expect in the second instalment.

Those who played the first game will be delighted to see returning characters such as Batman (Bruce Wayne), Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, and the Joker (John Doe). One of the main focal points this season will be Bruce Wayne’s relationship with John Doe. Previously, John had been Bruce’s ally during their incarceration in Arkham Asylum. John even believes the two are friends at the beginning of season two. Telltale has stated that the choices the player makes throughout the story will affect how John perceives Batman and ultimately decide the direction in which the character goes.

New to the series is primary antagonist, the Riddler (Edward Nigma). According to the trailer, Nigma had previously gone missing but has now mysteriously returned to Gotham to wreak havoc. Batman must solve convoluted and sadistic puzzles as he attempts to save Gotham’s citizens whilst under the watchful and taunting eyes of the Riddler.

Also introduced is Amanda Waller, an important government figure and eventual creator of the Suicide Squad. Initial footage indicates that Waller and Commissioner Gordon will compete for control over Gotham’s security enforcement, forcing Batman to choose between the two. Waller’s inclusion in the franchise opens up multiple doors for the future of Batman: The Telltale Series and could hint at potential villains for later additions.

The first episode of Batman: The Enemy Within will premiere on August 8, 2017 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One with no official dates for later entries.
