A video game adaptation of the popular manga Attack on Titan will hit North America this August, following the game’s successful release in Japan. The manga has also been turned into an anime and a live action film, and has been described as “Japan’s equivalent of The Walking Dead.”
Attack on Titan imagines a world where humans are sequestered into a multi-walled fortress of a city, constantly under attack from man eating giants called Titans. When a massive Titan breaks through the walls of their city, the protagonist Eren becomes part of a band of young soldiers fighting for humanity’s survival. The game’s story will be based on the first season of the anime.
This announcement trailer shows the player slicing and dicing the giant, misshapen Titans, armed with a sword and a grappling hook device that allows them to swing through the air. The blood-spattered trailer shows plenty of combat footage, as well as teasing the game’s story.
Attack on Titan will be released in August for the Xbox One and PS4, with digital versions available on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
