In an article posted by GamesTM, Ubisoft Montreal senior producer Vincent Pontbriant hinted at what players could expect in the modern day section of Assassin’s Creed: Unity.

We ended Desmond’s cycles in Assassin’s Creed III, and then we made Black Flag about an Abstergo employee being contacted by Assassins,” explains Pointbriant. “So you played this third-person character in the present, and we wanted to go one step beyond that. We decided that you’re actually, you the player, are the pilot of the Animus. So you start the game and then at some point you get contacted by the Assassin order to explore the memories of Arno through the Animus, and basically figure stuff out for them in the present. We made a few twists but we understand that this is the seventh game, so the story is becoming complicated; as such, we wanted to reintroduce some of the main elements of the narrative in a different way.

Hopefully this time around, Ubisoft will be able to craft something that is a bit more interesting for the modern day setting of the game than we’ve seen in previous entries. Lots of fans are divided on if it should even be in the game. We’ll have to wait and see when Ubisoft reveals more details if it’ll be a worthwhile portion of the game.

  1. I’m one of the rare few that absolutely LOVED the modern day aspect. Honestly, I found it quite a bit more interesting than the events in the past. Moreover, it’s what kept me going through Revelations and 3 which are, in my opinion, the weakest in the series. I feel there was so much potential there, which was completely and utterly ignored. Felt like they just stopped trying to do anything with it after AC2.

    Ass Crud 3 spoilers:

That part in 3 when you do the infiltration mission as Desmond and run into subject 4, I was really excited. I thought there would be some decent plot developments there…. but it never happened…. And now they’ve significantly nerfed the whole concept of it…. ah well.
