Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

UPDATE: The Assassin’s Creed Twitter page has confirmed the existence of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, strongly hinting at a Greek setting. More information will be available at E3 later this month.

After months of rumors, a new key chain seems to have confirmed the identity of the next Assassin’s Creed

Articblue, an insider for French gaming site JeuxVideo-Live, appears to have have lent credence to earlier leaks claiming Ancient Greece as the game’s setting by providing images of an unreleased Spartan Helmet key chain featuring the title of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey at the top.

Kotaku claims to have confirmed the leak through its own insiders, along with insight that Odyssey will be a “sequel” to last years installment, Origins. More information has also been shared, stating that the newest entry will neither reiterate the gameplay of last year’s Origins nor go back to the original style, instead incorporating further RPG elements with dialogue choices. Kotaku continues with more information stating that the game will release during Ubisoft’s 2019 fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2019. If true, this latter piece of information would make Odyssey the “unannounced franchise title” alluded to in Ubisoft’s latest fiscal report.

The word odyssey means “epic journey,” and is derived from Homer’s The Odyssey—one of the stories that make up the author’s epic poems. The tale told the story of Odysseus traveling for 10 years to return to his kingdom of Ithaca after losing the city of Troy during the Trojan War. The story is well known for being non-linear, with a plot that strongly influenced by the women and slaves featured.
