Creative Assembly

Total War developer Creative Assembly has been teasing a new console FPS for a while, and fresh hints suggest that it may be more than just another typical shooter.

The game remains firmly under wraps for the time being. However, the team has recently put out a call for new staff members, and the listings are illuminating.

First, the project is listed as a “tactical shooter,” though the role of senior level designer mentions levels that allow players to “express their skills, mastery and personal playstyles.” The ad also asks for “experience in at least one of these genres—stealth, FPS or immersive sims,” suggesting that the new IP is not a straightforward shooter.

Supplementing this is the call for a lead combat designer who understands how “gunplay synergises with other areas of the game to create heart pounding combat experiences,” further alluding to varied gameplay.

A post promoting the listings on Twitter (embedded below) purports to show production on the game, with brief snippets of motion capture, as well as one team member using a VR interface.

Meanwhile, from a narrative perspective, multiple roles desire that the applicant has an “interest in sci-fi.”

More concerning is the listing for a director of live operations and multiple mentions of desired experience working with games-as-a-service. However, the Total War series has long successfully followed a form of this model, so fears of a watered-down experience may be unwarranted.

This new IP will be Creative Assembly’s first foray beyond strategy games since 2014’s Alien: Isolation.

The team is also working on the recently announced A Total War Saga: Troy, Total War: Warhammer 3, and continued development on Total War: Three Kingdoms.

  1. Alien Isolation was a masterpiece for me, one of the best psychogical horror games that i’ve played. Wish we could get a second.
