THQ Nordic put out a new trailer for Piranha Bytes’s open-world sci-fi/fantasy action RPG, Elex, set for release in Q3 2017.

The trailer gives viewers a glimpse of events leading up to the moment players are thrust into the world, a world that is now controlled by a powerful resource known as “Elex”. ELEX is acronymic for Eclectic, Lavish, Exhilarating, Xenial, and is also at the center of a post-apocalyptic war. The resource gives players and NPCs (non-player characters) powerful abilities akin to magic. Check out the prologue trailer below.

“Elex” also plays a part in the player’s choices throughout the game’s world in that it determines whether or not humanity’s emotional nature will be overtaken by cold synthetic logic. Bioware’s Mass Effect Trilogy presented a similar choice at the end of the final game.

Elex features both modern and medieval locations. Players can use guns, swords, and “Elex’s” magic during combat against a mix of original characters and mutated creatures. For exploration, a jetpack will be available.

Similar to Bethesda’s Fallout series, Elex takes place on a post-apocalyptic world. This world, dubbed Magalan, was devastated by a comet that spread earthquakes and firestorms that leveled cities and forced the population to decline. What was left for the survivors was a world no longer their own, one ravaged by mutated creatures and chaos wreaked by those vying for control of the “Elex” resource.

Elex will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Privately-owned German video game developer Piranha Bytes is known for its award-winning Gothic and Risen series. The company was founded in 1997. Piranha Bytes has a distribution agreement with Nordic Games, now THQ Nordic, the company that will publish Elex upon its release.
