Yesterday Playtonic Games released new screenshots of the Banjo Kazooie-inspired game Yooka-Laylee, as well as other new details.
Along with the new screenshots, new details were released about the up-and-coming title centred around collecting items. One such aspect was the general narrative. Yooka and Laylee will be seeking out magical Pagies required to explore the mystifying Grand Tomes. With the use of these tools of great power, the duo hope to send packing the sinister corporate mastermind Capital B.
If he isn’t stopped, the world’s literature will be converted into absolute pure profit. The developers hope that the lore created in Yooka-Laylee, including the secret little tales and nudges about the characters, will live on into future Playtonic Games titles.
Along with the new narrative details it was disclosed how Yooka-Laylee will be a “Collect-Em-Up 2.0” title. A main part of this was the collectible Quills. By gathering hundreds of them, you may purchase new abilities from the serpent salesman Trowzer (don’t think too hard about it).
Although what makes it interesting is the player is free to pick which order they want to purchase abilities (which will aid exploration), making progression along the growing accessible areas organic.
The current release date of Yooka-Laylee is unknown, but an announcement isn’t too far off. The game will be released on the PC (Windows, Mac and Linux), Xbox One, PS4 and WiiU.
