We first heard the rumor of Platinum Games’ new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game back in December and after a few leaked screenshots hit the web last week, Platinum seems to be doubling down with an “official leak” this week, starting with a trailer for the new TMNT game, subtitled Mutants in Manhattan. You can see the trailer below.
Platinum has the following to say in the Youtube description:
Battle alongside your brothers through the sewers, subways, and streets of NYC to take down Shredder and Krang’s evil organization, Foot by Foot. Unleash custom combat skills and powerful team combos to save Manhattan from the overwhelming dark forces growing in the shadows.
The game seems to be taking visual cues from Platinum Games’ recent Transformers title with a comic book style and cell shaded visuals, but it’s a lot darker than everyone’s favorite robots in disguise, as one would expect from a game about ninjas – even turtle ninjas. Other than that, as a fine purveyor of all things TMNT, it seems like the new game is carving out its own canon within the Ninja Turtles’ universe. While it is borrowing bits and pieces everywhere (was that the shark Armaggon I spied?), it bears few of the hallmarks of the 2012 (and still going) Nickelodeon continuity nor the ultra gritty, quasi-realistic Michael Bay monstrosity.
Other than that, the game seems based around combo attacks, which is a neat addition for a game about the four iconic reptilian brothers, and should be a good addition to Platinum Games’ already amazingly well-honed combat systems.
Cowabunga, single players.
